Bulls Top G League Leading Warriors

Two hot teams in the NBA G-League met in a key Sunday matinee matchup. The Windy City Bulls hosted the Santa Cruz Warriors at the Sears Center Arena. The Bulls beat the Warriors 120-105. 

Windy City in the win were led by duo of Walt Lemon Jr and Mychal Mulder. Lemon JR had his second straight double-double with 21 points and 14 assists. Mulder chipped in with 29 points on 10-14 from the field including making 6 three pointers. “it’s not just tonight it’s every night. I feel like it’s the work we put in as a group. We all have good chemistry, it’s just a testament of how much work we put in together. Get on the home floor it’s the floor we put work on together,” Mulder on teammate chemistry with Lemon Jr. “They definitely do. Mike has come back on a tare since we lost him for 10 days with team Canada. Shooting at a high clip playing with great energy and effort. Walt has good shooter awareness, knows were Mike is, and calls plays for him. It’s definitely a great marriage,” Bulls head coach Charlie Henry on Lemon Jr and Mulder playing together on the floor. With yesterdays win over Santa Cruz Windy City Beat the team who had the best record in the NBA G-League. “It feels like when we beat any other team in the league. Statistically they’re (Santa Cruz) the number one team in the league, but I feel like we can beat anybody in this league. It doesn’t matter who come here I feel like they’re going to have trouble playing us, because of how hard we work and we’re ready to play/ It doesn’t really matter who the opponent is. it’s usually about us and how we impact the game,” Mulder on what win means to the team. “It definitely was. Their a very good team, very athletic, seep we had to play well. I thought we did that for the most part. Obviously, we had some lulls, but we followed through and finished strong,” coach Henry on Santa Cruz as a team and on the Victory. In the victory, the Bulls extended their division lead over the Grand Rapids Drive from 1.5 to 2 games in the central division. 

Windy City had a great start to the game. Mulder and Lemon Jr both picked up write where they left off from Lakeland Magic as Mulder hit a three pointer to start off the game. The team followed as the Bulls went on a 15-5 run to start the game. The Bulls held the Warriors to 25% from the field before the first timeout with 6:54 remaining in the first quarter. Windy City Kept up the pressure in the quarter as they stretched the lead to 25-9 with 3:20 left to go in the quarter. The Bulls kept Santa Cruz to 22 points in the quarter and led by 17 going into the second. The Warriors were able to make a charge on the Bulls into the second quarter. Santa Cruz was able to take the ball to the rim and 16-4 run in the period to cut the Bulls lead to 62-52 gaining into the locker room. 

Coming out of the locker room both the teams started out slow. The Bulls then got their feet under them and went on an early 7-3 run to jump the lead up to 14 points. Later in the quarter the Bulls went on another run 12-2 to lead 82-65. Windy City ended the quarter with an 88-72 lead. In the fourth the Warriors were able to mount a a charge cutting the lead to four at 96-92. That was as close as Santa Cruz could get before Windy City went 18-9 run to end the game and win by 15. 

The Bulls hit the road for two games against the Westchester Knicks And Greensboro Swarm. Before returning home to host the Maine Red Claws at the Sears Centre Arena on March 13th.
