The Windy City Bulls wanted to end the regular season on a high note Saturday night at the Sears Centre Arena against the Canton Charge. The Bulls were unable to end the regular season on a high note as they fell to the Charge 120-109. Windy City ends the regular season at 27-23 as they get ready for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
The Bulls in the loss were led by Mychal Mulder and JaKarr Sampson. Mulder collected 26 points and made 6 three pointers. Before the game Mychal Mulder passed Antonio Blakeney on the Bulls all-time franchise leading scores list. “Guys (Bulls) doing a good job finding me in the right position. Guys are throwing the extra pass. JaKarr (Sampson) was in the pocket. Guys were in the pocket. Guys were going downhill causing problems for their defense (Charge). I was the guy on the backside of things,” Mulder on what worked last night against Canton. Windy City head coach Charlie Henry was extremely pleased with Mulder's performance as night and in his career. “Really proud of Mike (Mulder). He’s been with us (Bulls) since I started. I’m proud of his development,” Coach Henry on Mulder's development as a Bulls player and being the all-time leading scorer of the franchise. Sampson last night had a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. “I settle too much on the jump shot. “Try to be much more aggressive in late game situations. Get it (ball) to the rim and draw fouls. That’s when I have my scoring burst and at my best,” Sampson on what works offensively for him this season and last night.
The game started well for the Windy City. The Bulls and the charge traded three pointers on the first two possessions of the game. Before Mychal Mulder and Walt Lemon Jr led the show for the Bulls. With Mulder and Lemon Jr leading the way, Windy City jumped out to a 9-point lead early in the first quarter. The Bulls were able to go on an 8-2 run as the offense continued its spark to jump their lead to 26-18 with 3:17 left in the first. Windy was able to close out the first with a 38-29 lead over Canton. At the start of the second quarter, the Charge went on an 8-0 run to trim the Bulls lead to 39-38 with 8:29 left in the quarter Windy City was able to get their groove back and extend their advantage to six with 6:07 left in the second. Canton was able to stay close as they went into halftime trailing 62-59.
In the third quarter Windy City fell flat in the quarter. The charge went an early 12-2 run to take the lead at 69 -64 at 9:56 left in the third. Canton pulled away in the quarter leading the Bulls 93-82 going into the 4th quarter. The game went from bad to worse for Windy City as head coach Charlie Henry was ejected early in the quarter. Assistant coach Jannero Pargo took over for Henry to coach the rest of the game. It was too little too late as the Bulls were only able to close in at 9 pts before Canton pulled away to win by 11. What’s next for the Bulls is a Playoff matchup in Westchester to take on the Knicks on Wednesday night at 6PM CT.
